2010 DATA BREACH Investigations Report

Verizon
is excited to announce that the 2010 Data Breach Investigation Report (DBIR) has been released. As in previous reports, the 2010 study explores the causes behind data breaches and offers recommendations to help enterprises better protect themselves.
This year we have embraced a first-of-its-kind collaboration between Verizon and the U.S. Secret Service (USSS). This has increased the scope of the types and numbers of breaches studied. With the addition of Verizon’s 2009 caseload and data from the USSS, the DBIR series spans six years, 900+ breaches, and more than 900 compromised records. We hope this information will be helpful to our readers planning and security efforts.

Over the next month we will discuss many of the findings in this report as well as provide a free webinar tailored to mid-sized customers on what we found and specific recommendations that customers can implement to avoid cybercrime. We look forward to hearing your comments and learning about how your business is using this data to protect itself.

"We continue to search for a link between data breaches and cloud-based or virtualized infrastructure but continue to find none"
